Five movies, five different dates - choose the one that suites you!

Congratulations - you secured a date! And you also agreed on going to the cinema. Well, this may have been a mistake but if you play your cards right you can still turn this around and make it a successful night! I had a look at the movies that are currently shown, here are five movies and whether or not it is a good idea to watch them on a date:

Battleship - risky business!
A movie about some sort of Alien invasion,  who hasn't seen it before but this time: on the water!
This movie is full with action scenes, things blowing up, people dying and heavy arms being launched. Additionally it has Rihanna in it. Overall it is two hours of thrill but nothing you would remember after anymore.
This movie is probably more something to watch with your mates (I mean you, guys!). I doubt one can expect the hoped for ending to the date after watching Rihanna for two hours. Also action movies like this are quite tiring and that is the last thing one wants: be tired (and by the end the girl is probably bored too).

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
This is a light comedy about a sheik who wants to fish for salmon in Yemen. A fishing expert (Ewan McGregor) is being hired to make this happen. Additionally the British press wants to run a 'good will' story to help warming up the political relationship between the Middle East and the West.
I guess this feel good film can be a good choice to watch together. On the one hand, there are Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt in it, acting well together, and on the other hand, the main topic is fishing -  something for true men (maybe you can even impress your date with the one or the other own fishing tale...).
The film leaves you in a good mood and gives you something to philosophise about after.

Titanic 3D
Well, everyone knows the story and the film about Jack and Rose falling in love on the Titanic and its dramatic ending. The film was re-released in 3D for the 100 year anniversary of the Titanic's accident.
Personally I don't think it is a good idea to watch this on the (first) date. It is too romantic and the ending too sad. Taking a girl to see this will only end up in tears and a melancholic mood.
Fun fact: In China the naked Kate Winslet was edited out of the 3D version, apparently men trying to touch her boobs would disturb the other people watching.

Lockout
Ok, this is the IMDb plot description:
"A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates."
I have to admit - I laughed when I read this, and I'm not so sure other girls wouldn't just laugh either (Please let me know in the comments section!).
However, if you are a girl and want to win over the guy by not picking a stereo typical girls movie: there you go, choose this one. And then you can secretly enjoy the 'outer space prison' (But don't laugh - that would be rude!).

The Hunger Games
Boys, keep reading - please! The Hunger Games has been compared with Twilight a lot lately. However: It is nothing like it at all! The only similarity is, that girls like it.
The story line is quite straight forward: Panem, a country that was once America, a cruel government is keeping the 12 Districts on its toes by letting them starve half to death and picking 2 kids every year to take part in the Hunger Games. 24 contestants have to try to stay alive  and there is only gonna be one winner.
The movie is action loaded but still quite philosophical. In my opinion it is entertainment for both men and women and not only teenagers but also adults.
After all, what would you do if you had to kill 23 people in order to stay alive? It is not the stereotypical date-movie but I think a good choice to keep both boy and girl happy.

Now, there you go - you need to decide and rock that date! And the next time I'd suggest not going to the cinema at all. After all, not talking or looking at each other for two hours is a bit counter productive when you are trying to get to know a person!

Let me know what you think - am I wrong? And what is the perfect date movie? Let me know!
